Berlin 2019

UK films and co-productions in selection

At the 69th Berlin International Film Festival British actress Charlotte Rampling will receive the Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement having worked across over 100 films. In 2016 Rampling won the Silver Bear for her role in Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years which will screen at the festival in February as part of the Homage line-up. Competing for the Golden Bear this year is Agnieszka Holland with Polish/UK/Ukranian co-production Mr Jones starring actor James Norton (pictured above). Fresh from its world premiere at Sundance The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by debut director Chiwetel Ejiofor will enjoy a Berlinale Special Gala.

Joanna Hogg brings her turbulent romance The Souvenir to the Panorama strand along with Hassan Fazili whose escape from the Taliban is the subject of documentary Midnight Traveler. Fellow documentary maker Seamus Murphy will screen his film A Dog called Money which follows British musician PJ Harvey as she records her 2016 album The Hope Six Demolition Project.
